thoughtful advice
clear direction
lifelong partnership
I work with individuals and families who want to approach retirement thoughtfully — making smart tax decisions and building a plan they can feel confident stepping into.
Hi, I’m Jonathan.
After 12 years in wealth management, I started JQL Wealth to focus on the part of planning that matters most — helping people navigate the transition into retirement with clarity and confidence.
JQL Wealth is named after my three kids, Jack, Quinn, and Laney, and it reflects what matters most to me: trust, reliability, and doing things the right way.
JQL Wealth was founded on a simple belief: financial advice should be personal, not transactional.
I intentionally work with a limited number of individuals and families to provide real guidance whether you’re planning for retirement, navigating a major life change, or just want a clearer financial path forward.
Who I Work With
Individuals Nearing Retirement
You’ve worked hard. Now the decisions matter more.
Can I retire sooner than I think?
Am I being smart about taxes?
What happens before Medicare?
Will I actually feel confident stepping away from work?
The next few years will shape the next few decades.
Families in the Building Years
While my primary focus is retirement transition planning, I also work with a select number of families who want structure around:
College funding strategies
Balancing retirement and education savings
Tax-aware investing
Long-term wealth building
Protecting what they’re building
As a Certified College Financial Consultant (CCFC), I help families think clearly about funding education without compromising their own financial future.
For all of Life’s Stages
Accumulators
I help you get on track and get a hold of your finances. We focus on putting money in the right buckets, protecting your assets and building your nest egg. All while holding you accountable and making continual progress.
Nearing Retirement
We decide what retirement looks like and coordinate your retirement income plan with a focus on reducing taxes, identify an affordable healthcare plan, Roth conversions, social security timing strategies and managing your tax bracket.
Leaving Your Legacy
This stage is about living a fulfilling life, giving intentionally, simplifying your estate and protecting assets from estate taxes & long term care costs. We discuss giving to family, charitable causes you care about and trust planning.
How We Begin
A simple, structured process designed to bring clarity from the first conversation.
Introductory Call
We discuss your retirement timeline, income goals, tax exposure, and the key decisions ahead. You’ll leave knowing what decisions matter most — and whether a structured plan is needed.
Step 1
Alignment and Engagement
If we’re a strong fit, I outline how we would coordinate your income strategy, investments, and tax planning during the transition into retirement. We review scope, expectations, and fees — so you can decide with confidence.
Step 2
Implementation and Ongoing Guidance
Once engaged, we design and execute your retirement strategy — structuring income, managing tax exposure, and adapting the plan as life evolves.
Step 3
Your Questions, Answered.
-
I provide ongoing financial planning and investment management designed to help families retire with clarity and confidence. Our work focuses on aligning your investments, taxes and income strategy so you can make smart decisions about when and how to retire.
I specialize in tax-efficient retirement planning including Roth conversion planning, sustainable withdrawal strategy, Medicare coordination, and tax-aware portfolio management for individuals and couples within 5-10 years of retirement.
If you choose to work with me you’ll receive proactive guidance, structured reviews and direct access to me whenever important decisions arise.
-
Working together is structured, proactive, and clear.
You’ll always know:
What we’re working on
Why it matters
What decisions deserve attention now
We meet twice per year for focused planning reviews, and you have direct access to me whenever questions come up.
My goal is simple: you leave conversations with clarity and direction.
-
I take the responsibility of managing your finances personally. I work with a limited number of families so I can stay deeply involved, lead every meeting myself, and be consistently available when you need guidance. You won’t be passed off to a team or left wondering who to call — you’ll work directly with me. My goal is to build long-term relationships rooted in trust, reliability, and genuine care for the families I serve.
-
I operate as a fee-only fiduciary and charge a transparent, percentage-based fee for ongoing financial planning and investment management.
Most clients pay between 0.75% and 1.00% annually, depending on complexity and assets managed.
There are no commissions, product sales, or hidden fees.
My fee covers investment management, tax-aware retirement planning, ongoing strategy, and direct access to me.
-
The first step is scheduling a brief introductory call.
Before we meet, you’ll complete a short discovery form so I can understand your situation and what you’re looking for.
During our conversation, we’ll discuss your goals, where you stand today, and whether working together makes sense. If it’s a good fit, I’ll outline the next steps clearly so you can move forward with confidence.
